Why BJJ for Kids?
- Confidence without aggression. Grappling teaches control, not violence. Kids who know how to handle physical situations carry themselves differently — bullies notice.
- Anti-bullying skills that work. Most bullying involves grabs, shoves and pins. BJJ teaches the exact responses for exactly those scenarios.
- Focus and discipline. Mat etiquette, bowing in, listening to a coach, following structured instruction — transferable habits.
- Fitness and coordination. Modern kids move less than ever. Two grappling classes a week visibly transforms posture, strength and coordination in a few months.
- A community that’s good for them. Mixed-ability mat, friendly seniors, a coach who knows their name. Better than scrolling.
Parent FAQs
Is it safe?
Yes. There are no strikes in BJJ. Kids learn safe breakfalls and positional control before any live sparring. Supervised, age-banded, and coached by professionals.
My child has never done anything physical — can they start?
Absolutely. Most kids walk in with zero martial arts background. The fundamentals class is built for exactly that.
Do they need a gi?
Not for the first class — we’ll lend you one. After joining, a kids gi is a one-off ~£40–£60 purchase.
